Fuel-powered vehicles will be banned in many advanced economies. California already leads the nation in policies banning sales of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles by 2030. The Netherlands has announced to ban sales of fuel-powered vehicles by 2025. Japan’s Toyota Motor plans to phase out gasoline-powered cars by 2050. An expert from China’s NDRC Energy Research Institute made a bold prediction in a press conference of China Passenger Vehicle Fuel Consumption 2015 Development Annual Report that internal combustion vehicles will be completely replaced by new energy vehicles like BEV in China’s new car sales in ten years!

Regardless of whether NEV’s replacement for conventional vehicles is suitable for the China market or whether such a prediction will come true, the importance of NEV development to the automobile industry is manifested in many aspects: increasing public awareness about environmental issues, policy support to NEVs, progress of NEV development overseas and domestic OEMs’ NEV development plan. Drive pattern and speed control system are core functions of NEVs. What changes will be made on them? This will be an important issue deserving long-term discussion in the industry.
