Environment protection is a very important issue concerned by all the industries for ages. Plastic package like plastic bottles and caps has been denounced as “white pollution” since its appearance. According to a report of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), China is among the most polluted countries by plastic wastes. Every year, China has 3.5 million tons of plastic bottles, bags, toys and other plastic wastes littered into oceans, making up one fourth of the total global plastic pollution. To tackle this environmental problem, plastic packaging enterprises try to make technical innovation on two aspects—to strength recycling and to explore alternative materials and better product design. In the future, plant-based plastics will be the next market focus. The plastic bottles and caps market is suffering setbacks as international oil prices remain low, PP, PE and PET raw materials markets are weak and terminal markets like soft drinks, medicine and cosmetics grow slowly. Low profitability of this industry has forced many enterprises, including some big ones, to cut operating rates or even stop production. How to break this bottleneck in the development of plastic bottles and caps market and restore market confidence? This is an important question for all industry players right now. The question has also been mulled over by Enmore—the event organizer over the past three years. We have drawn the conclusion based on surveys of many plastic bottle/cap manufacturers, raw material suppliers, end-users and research and testing institutions that there shall be four solutions to this problem: R&D on new technology to improve quality and environmental standards, exploration of new applications, production optimization & cost control and modern marketing model.
