China’s methanol export market began to fall in late 2013 as the recovery of production overseas closed the arbitrage window. Domestic market prices remained low since February 2014 due to the steady increase of domestic methanol capacity and poor downstream demand from MTO/MTP and methanol gasoline. In June, the downtrend came to an end and the market was in consolidation. The news that several domestic MTO plants have resumed normal production helps to restore market vitality.
