According to incomplete statistics, in 2018 China's etherification C4 capacity is 22 million tons, and the demand is 14.5 million tons. It is estimated that the production capacity will reach 25 million tons in 2019, the demand will be 19 million tons, and the import will reach 0.7 million ton. But actual commodity did not reach the demand. C4 resources will still be in short supply.

In mid-September 2017, the National Development and Reform Commission and other 15 ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Implementation Plan on Expanding the Production of Biofuel Ethanol and Promoting the Use of Ethanol Gasoline for Vehicles", requesting the promotion of ethanol gasoline for vehicles by 2020. With the promotion of ethanol gasoline, the MTBE market is bound to be squeezed. At present, domestic MTBE accounts for more than 90% of the production and blending of gasoline. Although it can also be used in the chemical industry and medical field, the demand cannot be satisfied. More than 20 million tons of MTBE will be added in the future. So, where is the future development of MTBE? How about the feasibility of de-capacity or Device modification or export? These issues are worth pondering...

Besides, looking at the market of alkylated oils, the current production capacity of alkylated oil in China has reached 16.8 million tons. At the same time, due to the release of new alkylation capacity in 2018~2019, China's alkylated oil production capacity will continue increasing in the future. However, the current demand for alkylated oil in China is only 9.03 million tons, so it is oversupplied in China. Despite this, industry players are generally optimistic about the favorable factors brought about by the national standard gasoline upgrade and vehicle upgrade, and the new equipment for alkylation will not be reduced. The shortage of raw materials caused by the imbalance between supply and demand, the monotonous product structure and the relative excess capacity are the three major problems facing the domestic deep processing industry.
